Our Mission

To ensure that children and their families who come within the jurisdiction of this Court leave this system more capable of living safely, productively and responsibly.

OUR PROGRAMS

COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM

The Community Service Learning Program is designed to provide opportunities for delinquent youth to gain positive experiences through contribution of time and energy to our community and to assist the youth in developing assets and skills that they need to make better decisions.  Judge Thomas E. Heydinger initiated the program in 1995.

The program consists of the youth completing Court ordered community service hours, attending 10 community service classes, which meet weekly, and attendance by a parent at a 2-½ hour “It’s A Parent” class.  It is expected that the program will be completed in 10 weeks.

STUDY GROUP

The Study Group Program began in January 1998 for children who are in the Court system and are having academic or truancy problems, been suspended, or in need of academic assistance.  The Program is designed to help participants achieve success in school, promote the importance of education, and provide structured time for participants to do their homework with supervision and tutoring assistance.  Study Groups meet twice a week for 1-½ hours.  The Court orders the number of sessions that each participant needs to attend. The sessions are supervised by a Certified Teacher with the assistance of an intern or volunteer.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We have openings for volunteers to assist with our Study Group Program in Norwalk and Willard.  Please contact us if you are interested.
